Pennys Road Farm is an historic old property in the high country of the Barossa. Established by the Graetz Family in the late 1800's, it was a traditional working farm until the early 2000's. Since 2004 it has been home to our family, our animals, including a small herd of Icelandic Horses and since 2013, our guests. Authentic, historic, beautiful and just a little bit quirky, we love Pennys and hope that you will too.
The original bluestone farmhouse is separated from a series of three rooms, also bluestone, by a big, open courtyard.
It is these three rooms that make up the guest quarters. They consist of a living room, a peaceful bedroom that sits above a working cellar and an enormous, luxury bathroom. They are connected to each other by a long, colonial verandah and were the original work rooms of the farm. What is now the living room was once the old German kitchen, the bedroom was a dry goods storage room and the bathroom was the farm laundry. They have been thoughtfully renovated to a standard that allows for beautiful accommodation while retaining all of the history that makes Pennys such a treasure.
At Pennys, you will get some of the best sleeps you could dream of and have your batteries completely recharged by the peace and the beauty of the farm and the country that surrounds it.
We are locals and our knowledge of The Barossa is extensive, so expect lots of excellent tips on where to go and what to do while visiting our beautiful patch of the world.
Food and wine are a strong focus at Pennys. We source from our extensive network of clever, passionate local folk and also grow a lot of our own produce on the property. Fresh, innovative and delicious always.

Pennys Road is all about an authentic food, wine and accommodation experience set in the rolling hills and magnificent old red gums that characterize the high country east of the Barossa Valley floor. Guests are welcome for one night , several nights or even weeks. The guest quarters are private but we are close by to be able to answer questions, give great tips on where to go and what to do in the Barossa and of course, to serve up some killer breakfasts!
Pennys is ideally suited for couples, with its superbly comfy queen sized bed. Want to slip in a couple of extras? Not a problem with the sofa bed in the living area for an extra $50 per person. Expect French linen, organic cotton and wool to feature. According to our guests, the sleeping at Pennys is deep and rejuvenating.
Breakfast is included in the tariff and is always freshly prepared, innovative and delicious. A large selection of quality loose leaf teas and single origin filter coffee is also included. Dinner can be arranged, with matching wines and is always of a high standard. All meals can be served at the table in the living area, in one of the two courtyards at our guests' disposal or even under the big old mulberry tree out in the paddock.
Looking after our beautiful planet is very important to us. We harvest all of our own rain water and the solar panels are on their way. All toiletries are natural, sustainable and mainly sourced from local producers. We recycle as though our world depends on it, (which of course it does) and try to grow as much of our own produce as we can. The many frogs in the courtyard ponds and bees in the gardens at Pennys are testament to how chemical free and green we keep things here.
Ready to book with us? Have a question about our rooms or services? We'll be happy to help!
